PRINCIPLE

Air Exchanger

MINI is an air treatment system that uses two high-efficiency axial-flow brushless direct current fans for effective  ventilation. The system includes a compact filtration module for HEPA air cleaning that does not restrict air flow. Additionally, our breathable-shell shell-and-tube thermal energy exchange technology is used to provide passive and /or heating to condition air throughout the year. There are no electrical heating elements or cooling coils in the system. The system is mechanically robust and can mitigate frost or condensate buildup even in extremely cold climates.

MINI System Ventilation Box

Most single-room heat and energy recovery units utilize either regenerative matrix or recuperative plate heat exchangers. However, MINI uses a revolutionary patent-pending breathable-shell shell-and-tube thermal energy exchanger to condition indoor air throughout the year. There are no electrical heating elements or refrigerant cooling coils in the unit. The air exchanger is mechanically robust and can prevent frost buildup even in extremely cold climates. The Inline Filter Box does not cause air flow restriction in the product.

Inspired by NATURE, the shell side of the air-to-air exchanger “breathes” in fresh air by using an orifice that mimics the gill of a fish. Additionally, the tube side functions like the blood vessels in the human body to facilitate thermal energy (heat) transfer between the fresh and stale air streams.

Fans

MINI consists of two high-efficiency axial-flow brushless direct current fans that simultaneously supply fresh air to your space and expel stale air to the outdoors.

Filter

MINI ships with a G2 (MERV4) filter which can trap particulates from the outdoor air. An optional Inline Filter Box that offers HEPA filtration can be used with MINI.

1. All reported specification values are nominal. 2. The sensible effectiveness represents the performance of the system when the ventilation box is used in conjunction with the filter box that is installed indoors. 3. The power measurement represents the minimum controllable level of an operating unit and excludes legacy variants that do not have dedicated fan controllers. The nominal power that is consumed by a unit can reach or exceed 16 W depending on the specific combination of supply and exhaust fans. 4. The recommended indoor conditions for the operation of the units are as per the winter and summer comfort zones that are prescribed in ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 55 – 2010. 5. Current MINI units feature four ports which can all be fully ducted whereas legacy units may have only two ports.

The recommended floor area is based on the 2021 International Residential Code and ASHRAE Standard 62.2 – 2010 at the rated capacity of the product and an assumed ceiling height of 8 ft. The floor area is for open (unpartitioned) spaces and may not be suitable for all use cases.

In terms of ASHRAE Standard 52.2, G2 is approximately rated to MERV4 whereas G4 corresponds to the MERV7 filtration level. In accordance with EN 779 and ISO 16890, G4 filters can capture 60%-85% of particles that are within 0.3 to 10 microns whereas G2 filters can trap the same size of particles at an efficiency of 30%-50%. On the other hand, our HEPA filters, which are based on EN 1822, can trap at least 99.5% of most penetrating particle sizes that are below 2.5 microns. * *
